How to get information about the de Forest Collection

History San José receives many requests to conduct research in the Lee de Forest Papers. Though HSJ wishes to assist the public in their research, the Papers are not currently archivally processed. History San José is working to secure funding to hire staff to process and catalog this large collection. In the meantime, any requests regarding the De Forest papers should be made to the HSJ Research Library through our research request form at HistorySanJose or by e-mail We will make all reasonable efforts to assist you in your research. Thank you for your patience.

After Lee de Forest's death in 1961, his wife Marie donated his papers, many photos, his OSCAR and much of his technology to the Perham Foundation in San Jose. In the early 1970s, the Perham collection became the Foothill Electronics Museum. When that museum closed in the early 1990s, the de Forest papers were moved to a secure vault for storage. In 2003, the Perham collection, including the de Forest collection, was transferred to History San Jose, the major museum of Silicon Valley History.
